Abbas Hussain was named Vice President Europe, responsible for the regions EMS (European Mid-Size), AMEA/CIS (Africa & Middle East Area/Commonwealth of Independent States) and CEE (Central & Eastern Europe), for Eli Lilly and Company in June 2004. He had been EMS Area Director since 2003.
Born in Madras, India, he received joint honors in Medicinal Chemistry & Pharmacology at the Loughborough University of Technology, UK.
In 1988, Hussain joined Lilly UK as Sales Representative GP & Hospital Sales East London. He then moved to Australia in 1990 where he became Associate Market Research & New Product Planning and was appointed to District Sales manager (NSW & WA) in 1992. In 1994, he moved to Indianapolis as Associate of Global Product Planning (Cardiovascular Business Unit) and was promoted to Associate of Business Development Asia Pacific in 1995. The next year, he became Pharmaceutical Marketing Director in India and was named Managing Director Turkey in 1998. Hussain accepted in 2001 a position as General Manager Lilly Deutschland as well as General Manager and Speaker Lilly Pharma Holding GmbH. |
