PRO: Abram Elam originally signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent (5/16/05) but was released (7/28/05) during training camp and remained out of football through the 2005 season. He signed a free agent contract with Dallas on Feb. 2, 2006.
COLLEGE: Elam finished his collegiate career at Kent State in 2004, where he started all 11 games for the Golden Flashes and totaled 64 tackles and four pass breakups. Elam's three interceptions tied for the team-lead and he had a team-high 105 return yards on those three picks. He also returned 16 punts for a 9.2-yard average. In 2001, Elam played at Norte Dame with current Cowboy Julius Jones, where he recorded 29 tackles and two interceptions in 11 games.
PERSONAL: Elam earned his associate's degree from Palm Beach Community College and worked at a dentist office in West Palm Beach prior to receiving a scholarship from Kent State in 2004. He was a two-way player at Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, Fla., excelling as both a quarterback and a defensive back. Elam played in both the Florida-Georgia and Florida-California All-Star games and lettered in basketball. Elam signed autographs and interacted with loyal Dallas Cowboys fans at the team's 2006 NFL Draft Day party hosted in appreciation for their support. |
