As a pioneering engineer and computer scientist, Al was a cofounder of Atari, the company that created Pong (1972), the wildly successful video game first available for the home. At Atari, Al led the development of the Atari VCS-the first home videogame console. As an Apple Computer Fellow, Al did early work on MPEG and Quicktime. Later he was vice president of engineering at Digital FX, a company that designed and manufactured professional digital video workstations. Most recently, Al worked at Interval Research where he founded and was vice president of Engineering for Zowie Intertainment, a toy company that was a spinout from Interval.
