Al Mayles is the USBL�s newly appointed Supervisor of Officials. Al brings 25+ years of basketball officiating and administrating to this position. This experience ranges from Professional through Recreational tiers as an administrator and official. Professionally, Al can be seen running the courts as a referee in the USBL, IBL, JSBL, EBA, NRL and USSSA. Highlights of his officiating career specially include the USBL Festival in 1999 - 2003, the National Pro/Am Tournament Finals in 1997 - 1999, the Philadelphia Pro/Am Finals in 2001, the IBL League Playoffs in 2000, the EBA League Finals and All Star Game in 1997, Showtime�s All Star Game in 1998, the JSBL Playoffs in 2001 - 2003 and the NRL Finals in 2001.
In 2001, Al was appointed the New Jersey State Director of USSSA Basketball. His duties and responsibilities include supervising and coordinating all USSSA Basketball sanctioned events in the state of New Jersey and Organizer of USSSA�s Basketball Officiating Certification Program. During this tenure he developed and implemented a Training Program for all Professional and Recreational Officials in his area.
Recreationally, Al is the Program Coordinator/Instructor for the Youth Boys & Girls Officiating Program in New Jersey. This program, Under Al�s direction, has introduced more than 235 boys & girls under the age of 18 to the officiating rules and mechanics of basketball. Accordingly, 27 students have graduated to the ranks of adult officials with a fuller understanding of basketball techniques. Additionally, Al makes over 5000 basketball officiating assignments per year in the central New Jersey area.
As the Supervisor of Officials for the USBL, Mayles will be in charge of all aspects of the USBL officiating staff. This will include recruiting new candidates, running a series of clinics in specific USBL cities, assigning all games and meeting with each USBL team prior to the start of the season to go over rule changes and expected code of conduct from players, coaches and referees.
