As the CEO of Digitas Global, Rutherford leads the division of the group formed to grow the agency's business and service to clients worldwide. He is based in London and reports to Digitas Chairman and CEO, David Kenny.
Rutherford is charged with driving the growth opportunity of Digitas Global by leading the agency's expansion into major new markets around the world, building relationships with global clients and leveraging the agency's expansion platform businesses, which include the Digitas agencies, the Media Operations and Technology division and Prodigious Worldwide.
Prior to joining Digitas, Alan was VP of Global Media for CPG giant Unilever, where he was charged with increasing both the strategic input of media and efficiency performance. In this role Alan was responsible for significant changes to the way Unilever manages its approach to brand communication. In 2004, he was nominated as one of the ten most influential people in Media.
Prior to joining Unilever in 1998, Rutherford served as a Director at Ogilvy and Mather Europe. Since beginning his career in advertising in 1983, he has held a range of planning, buying and account management positions. Rutherford received an Honors B.A. in Economics from Leicester University.
