Experience
Aleka represents clients in connection with transactions and land use issues related to the acquisition, option, disposition, development and leasing of commercial, mixed-use and residential properties, including issues related to green building and leasing. Her practice also includes matters related to LEED certification, the development of projects in partnership with redevelopment agencies, and common interest developments. Aleka has been quoted on green building matters in various periodicals, including the California Real Estate Journal, GlobeSt.com, Western Real Estate Business and Buildings Magazine. She currently serves on Wendel Rosen's Sustainability Committee.
Aleka's land use experience has included, among other things, representing clients in connection with general plan amendments, CEQA matters, and solar shading issues as well as the preparation and review of conservation easements, operation and management plans, and preserve budgets in connection with development mitigation.
In 2008, Aleka monitored AB 32 subgroup hearings in Sacramento in the areas of land use, green building, electricity and transportation for the purpose of advising commercial real property clients in connection with proposed State policy linked to AB 32 implementation. Currently, Aleka is monitoring State policy regarding urban forestry protocols developed by the California Climate Action Registry in connection with voluntary greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects by firm clients.
Aleka's practice also encompasses general business and corporate matters, such as entity formation, the negotiation and drafting of license agreements, grape contracts, agricultural maintenance agreements, termination agreements and services agreements. She has represented a wide variety of clients ranging from institutional corporations to closely held companies and individuals.
Prior to joining Wendel Rosen, Aleka served as assistant General Counsel for a local developer. During law school, Aleka worked at the California Energy Commission and interned at the California Office of the Attorney General (in the Land Law, Natural Resources and Environment sections), and the Planning and Conservation League. Before practicing law, she was a nationally ranked and All-American road cyclist.
