Alex Shumate is a board member of Nationwide Financial Services, Inc. (NFS), a part of Nationwide, a $161 billion diversified financial services organization based in Columbus, Ohio. NFS is the publicly traded holding company for Nationwide's long-term savings operation. He was elected to the board in 2002. He also serves on the boards of Nationwide Life Insurance Company and Nationwide Life and Annuity Insurance Company, subsidiaries of NFS.
Shumate is the managing partner of the Columbus office of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, an international law firm. He leads the firm's legislative counseling and administrative law activities.
He was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2001-2002, and for induction into the 2001 Junior Achievement Central Ohio Business Hall of Fame.
Shumate is an active leader in the central Ohio community, serving as the immediate past chairman of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce. He is a trustee of the Capitol South Redevelopment Corporation and of the Wexner Center for the Arts, and is director of The Ohio State University Foundation Board and the John Glenn Institute. He also serves as director of the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company and Cincinnati Bell, Inc.
Shumate received his bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and his juris doctorate from The University of Akron. He is a fellow of the Ohio State Bar Association and former member of the Columbus Bar Association's board of governors. |
