Allen B. Funk was named president and publisher of The Herald in Everett, Washington, in July 2001. He joined The Herald as ad director and general manager in 1993. Previously, Funk spent seven years in finance, advertising sales and management at The Washington Post. A fourth generation publisher, he is a 29-year veteran of the newspaper industry, including large metro and medium-sized suburban dailies, community newspapers and rural weeklies.
In addition to The Herald, The Daily Herald Company also publishes The Enterprise (four weeklies in South Snohomish and North King Counties), HeraldNet, The Snohomish County Business Journal, Pickle Press/North Sound Shopping (a TMC product) and La Raza del Noroeste, a weekly Hispanic publication.
Funk previously served as chair of Allied Daily Newspapers of Washington and is currently on the board of the Association of Washington Business. He also serves on the executive board of the YMCA of Snohomish County and is a past chair of the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce.
Funk graduated from Stanford University and received an MBA from Harvard Business School. He has a wife and two daughters.
