Dr. Sussman, a native of New York City, completed his undergraduate work at Brown University and his medical education at New York Medical College. He happily migrated west to complete a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Washington. Dr. Sussman has been affiliated with Valley Medical Center in private practice since 1979. He is a Board Certified Endocrinologist and Internal Medicine physician specializing in diabetes, thyroid, lipid disorders and obesity. He takes a holistic approach to his patients, drawing from his extensive experiences in mind-body medicine and meditation. He was the former Director of Alternative Medicine services at Valley Medical Center, and currently facilitates the "Healer's Art" course with UW medical students. Dr. Sussman is active in clinical drug research and was one of the founders of Rainier Clinical Research Center. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington and former Chief of Medicine at Valley Medical Center. He was formerly active with the American Diabetic Association and developed a highly successful statewide support program for teenage diabetics. Dr. Sussman loves the great Northwest, taking annual backpack trips and playing golf rain or shine. His wife is the former Director of Nursing at Highline Community College, and performs locally with a barbershop quartet and chorus. They enjoy living on Mercer Island, bridge games with friends, and traveling with their sons. |
