Ms. Varella specializes in representing publicly and privately held companies in litigation matters with an emphasis on real estate litigation. She has extensive experience in land use and telecommunications litigation, including representation of a national wireless telecommunications provider in numerous cases in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine. Ms. Varella also represents for-profit and non-profit entities in property tax abatement matters before the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board. She counsels employers regarding hiring and firing, personnel policies, handbooks, severance agreements, releases and covenants not to compete. She has represented employers before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.
Ms. Varella has significant experience at the appellate level, including the Supreme Judicial Court, Massachusetts Appeals Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

o Obtained a preliminary injunction for retailer enjoining further construction in shopping center, resulting in removal of offending structure.
o Obtained summary judgment for client, resulting in first favorable decision for a wireless telecommunications provider in Maine under Telecommunications Act of 1996.
o Prevailed before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination in defending discrimination claims against employers.
o Obtained substantial judgment for lending institution in breach of contract case.
o Prevailed on summary judgment for landowner in environmental liability matter.
