Andrew Sharples is a Chartered and European Patent Attorney in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery UK LLP, based in its London office. He has background in molecular biology, and as a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, his practice focuses on the prosecution and exploitation of patents, particularly those with a biotechnology content. His activities range from advising on patent filing strategies and drafting patent applications, to defending and attacking patents in opposition proceedings.
Andrew regularly provides advice to investors on the patent portfolios of companies seeking investment and also provides specialist patent advice on other transactional matters. A significant proportion of Andrew's practice centres on the conduct of intellectual property litigation, including patents, trade marks, copyrights and designs, and he has been involved in matters ranging from disputes before the Patents County Court to the House of Lords.
Andrew is a regular contributor to journals such as Patent World, Current Drug Discovery, the European Intellectual Property Review and the Journal of Biolaw and Business. In addition, Andrew is a member of the Biochemical Society and the European Federation of Biotechnology.
