Rogers Media Inc. is one of Canada's largest integrated media companies principally consisting of Rogers Publishing Canada's largest magazine publishing and business-to-business communications company; Rogers Broadcasting one of Canada's largest and most successful broadcasting enterprises; the Shopping Channel Canada's only home shopping network; OMNI Television a multilingual television station and Rogers Sportsnet a cable specialty channel carried in 5.5mm homes. Mr. Viner was appointed to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer Rogers Media in April 1999.
Since 1999 Tony Viner has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Rogers Media Inc. Mr. Viner has held managerial positions in broadcasting for over twenty years and is currently responsible for 43 radio stations OMNI Television Rogers Publishing Rogers Sportsnet The Shopping Channel (a televised home shopping service) and the Toronto Blue Jays.
A graduate of The University of Western Ontario Mr. Viner began his career in radio in 1973 as national sales representative with Paul Mulvihill Radio Sales and later became Sales Manager for CFCF Radio in Montreal. In 1977 Mr. Viner joined the newly licensed Q107 in Toronto as General Manager and was responsible for launching the radio station. In February 1982 Mr. Viner joined Rogers Broadcasting as Executive Vice President and General Manager of CFTR/CHFI. In September 1989 he was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Rogers Broadcasting Limited and CFMT-TV. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of RBL and Senior Vice President Broadcasting RCI in 1992.
Mr. Viner is also involved in the industry in other capacities. He is a Board member of The Toronto Blue Jays and Chairman of the West Park Healthcare Centre Capital Committee. He is past Chairman of the Radio Marketing Bureau; past Chairman of Bureau of Broadcast Measurement past Chairman of the CAB Radio Board and a member of the CAB Executive Committee.
