Arie Michelsohn is a senior associate in Milbank's litigation department, specializing in patent infringement litigation. Arie has extensive experience litigating every aspect of a case, from pre-litigation counseling through trial.
During his over ten years as a student associate, associate, and Of Counsel at Finnegan, Henderson, Arie was a member of several trial teams representing major pharmaceutical companies in six ANDA suits. He has also represented several biotechnology companies in cases concerning such fields as thermocyclers for PCR, DNA microarrays, bioinformatics, endocrinology, and HIV diagnostics. Arie's experience includes federal district court litigation, as well as interferences, section 146 actions, and Federal Circuit appeals. Arie also has extensive experience in counseling. He has conducted numerous IP transactional due diligence investigations, and has drafted dozens of patentability, noninfringement, and invalidity opinions.
Arie began his legal career as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and practiced patent prosecution as a patent agent and student associate for three years. He then clerked for Circuit Judge Raymond C. Clevenger III, at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Arie has lectured extensively on various topics in pharmaceutical and biotechnology patent law at such venues as American Conference Institute CLE programs, at conferences of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, and at a meeting of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Intellectual Property in Genomic and Protein Research and Innovation. Arie also has authored articles on patent law topics in The National Law Journal, The Journal of BioLaw and Business, the European Biotechnology Review, and the American University Law Review.
Arie holds a bachelors degree in biochemistry from Columbia University, a Ph.D. in biology from the California Institute of Technology, and a J.D., with high honors, Order of the Coif, from the George Washington University Law School. |
