Dr. Forastiere is chairwoman of ITA's Advisory Board. A Professor of Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, she is an internationally recognized expert in clinical trials research and treatment of cancers of the head and neck and cancer of the esophagus.
Dr. Forastiere is Director of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) Clinical Trials Research Office at Johns Hopkins (1993-present), She is the Chairwoman of the Head and Neck Committee for ECOG and formerly was Chairwoman of the Medical Oncology Committee of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. Dr. Forastiere is Chairwoman of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Head and Neck Cancer Guidelines Panel. Dr. Forastiere is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and served on the Board of Directors. She was Chairwoman of the Public Issues Committee and the Education Committee and serves on the Prevention Committee of ASCO. She is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Forastiere served on the Food and Drug Administration Oncology Drugs Advisory Board.
Dr. Forastiere is a graduate of Trinity College, Hartford, CT and received her medical degree from New York Medical College. She completed Internal Medicine training at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and a fellowship in Hematology-Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY. She then held a research position at the Baltimore Cancer Reseach Program of the National Cancer Institute and was on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. This was followed by a faculty appointment at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, MI. Dr. Forastiere has been on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine since 1988. Dr. Forastiere is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in Medical Oncology. |
