Mr. Agnos has extensive experience in executive roles and decision-making at the federal, state and local government level as Mayor of San Francisco, as an elected member of the California State Legislature, and as a senior Presidential appointee in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Mayor Agnos was widely acclaimed for his leadership during and after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. He won new state and federal regulatory changes for disaster relief that now speed recovery in other disaster situations throughout the nation. Mr. Agnos began his elective career in the California legislature, where he served as Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, which was credited with saving California millions of dollars as a result of its audits. He served as the Chair of the Assembly Ways and Means Health and Welfare Subcommittee, budgeting $16 billion in state programs. In 1998, Mr. Agnos was asked by HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo to serve as the Acting Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner while continuing as the Pacific Regional Executive. He administered programs that fund mortgage insurance for over six million single-family homes and over $400 billion in both multi-family and single-family homes. His duties also included serving on the management board of Federal Housing Finance Board overseeing the home loan bank system. In the private sector, Mr. Agnos is currently serving as a Board member for Countrywide Treasury Bank, a subsidiary of Countrywide Credit Industries headquartered in Calabasas, California. As an outside director, he serves as the Chair of the Bank Public Policy Committee as well as a member of the Audit and Compensation Committees. Mr. Agnos serves on the GFT audit and compensation committee. |
