Arthur I. Neustadt, a member of the firm's Board of Directors, heads the firm's Litigation Practice Group. Mr. Neustadt has been actively involved in intellectual property litigation in courts throughout the United States for over thirty-five years. He has successfully tried jury and bench cases in all areas of technology before the federal district courts and argued appeals before the Supreme Court, the Federal Circuit and the regional circuit courts of appeal. He has lectured widely, both domestically and internationally, on intellectual property litigation. His recent cases include Festo v. SMC where he is lead counsel for SMC and argued the case before the Supreme Court and twice before the en banc Federal Circuit; Medtronic v. Guidant (pioneer patent for treatment of congestive heart failure held valid); CPI v. St. Jude (jury verdict of patent validity for implantable cardiac defibrillator patent reinstated); Li v. Toshiba (early semiconductor patent held inequitably procured and attorney fees of $3.5M awarded), Ajinomoto v. ADM (judgment for $26M for mutation genetics and recombinant DNA patent) and Loral Fairchild v. Toshiba (early CCD patent held invalid and not infringed).
In October 2003, Mr. Neustadt was designated by Legal Times as one of the top intellectual property attorneys in the Washington, D.C. area. In April 2004, he was designated by Chambers USA as one of the top three intellectual property attorneys in Virginia and was referred to as "an inspirational and highly creative attorney" and "a true landmark setter." In April 2005, Chambers USA noted that he is known to get great settlements quickly due in part to the good grasp he has of the dynamics of litigation and that he is, according to competitors, �proficient at identifying issues and working with a cost-benefit approach.� Recently, he was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2006.
Mr. Neustadt is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center where he received the American Jurisprudence Award and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland where he was elected to Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. |
