Arthur D. Smith, Ph.D. is currently serving as Ciena�s Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President, with responsibility for global operations, worldwide services and support, marketing, and information technology. Previously, Dr. Smith served as Senior Vice President, Global Operations from September 2003, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Customer Services and Support from June 2002, and as Senior Vice President, Core Transport Division from May 2001. Prior to these appointments, he held engineering management positions in Ciena�s Transport Division since joining the company in May 1997.
From 1988 to 1997, Smith was employed with Nortel Networks in Ottawa, Canada and Harlow, England as a research engineer in optoelectronics.
Dr. Smith holds both a B.Sc. in Engineering and a Ph.D. from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. |
