Barry S. Strauch, MD, is the Chairman of the Department of Medicine. He has been on the active staff of the Inova Fairfax Hospital for 30-plus years with 24 years as Chief of the Nephrology Section. He started his professional career with two years as a full-time faculty member of the Yale Medical School. He then started in the practice of nephrology in Northern Virginia.
Dr. Strauch was a co-founder and long-term managing partner of Washington Nephrology Associates, one of the two largest nephrology groups in the United States. He has served as Chairman of a quasi-government agency (one of 32 in the United States) which regulated quality and need in chronic renal care. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors of Johns Hopkins Medicine (the entity that runs Johns Hopkins Medical School and Hospital) and on the teaching faculty at Georgetown University with a rank of Clinical Professor of Medicine.
He has published a significant number of papers, most of which are based on original research and observations.
Over the last few years, he has developed interests in conflict resolution and the health care system. He has been actively lecturing on the latter and has studied the former (as a graduate student of the George Mason University Institute of Conflict Analysis and Resolution). He has a Virginia Certificate for Mediation. |
