Bill Rothwell was appointed to the role of Vice President Innovation and Chemicals Technology within Shell Global Solutions International with effect from 1 March 2007.
Bill is based in Houston and has global responsibility for identifying and leveraging innovation and chemicals technology across the Shell Group, including Shell Chemicals.
Bill Rothwell has worked for Shell since 1980 in various capacities.
In 2002, Bill was appointed as General Manager Ethylene Oxide/Glycols, leading Shell's global Ethylene Oxide/Glycols business and working with the Group's regional business teams all over the world to serve the needs of customers. Prior to this assignment he served in London and Houston as head of the Corporate Strategy, Strategic Planning and Ventures department. In this role, Bill led an international team supporting the Shell Chemicals Limited Executive Committee in the development of global business strategies and the annual five year financial plan.
Prior to his assignment as head of strategy and planning, Bill served as a business manager in polymers, as a regional planning manager and as a new business development manager.
His first ten years were spent as a research manager and a research chemist at Shell's Westhollow Technology Center. Before joining Shell, Bill earned a PhD in Physical Chemistry from MIT and has undergraduate degrees in mathematics and chemistry from Michigan State University.
In 2007 Bill was appointed to the board of directors for Codexis Inc, a developer of clean biocatalytic technology manufacturing processes. Click here for more information about this appointment.
