Bill Thomas is executive vice president EDS� Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. With revenues in excess of $7 billion and an employee base of 40 000 EMEA is the highest growth region for EDS worldwide. EDS EMEA serves a wide range of public and private sector clients providing consultancy business transformation solutions implementation as well as operations and process hosting services. Thomas serves as a member of EDS� Executive Committee.
Previous to his current role Thomas was regional vice president of EDS UK and Ireland a $3 billion business serving most Whitehall departments as well as a wide range of commercial clients.
He is a recognized authority in business transformation programme and change management contributing thought leadership to both public and private sector organisations. Thomas was the keynote speaker at the Smiths Institute seminars on The role of ICT in raising productivity in the UK.
Previously Thomas was vice president and client delivery executive EDS EMEA. In this role he was responsible for reengineering the EMEA Delivery organisation to create pan-European organizations for infrastructure process management and solutions consulting. The result was a significant increase in productivity consistency and quality of service delivery to EDS clients.
He was promoted to vice president following an appointment to corporate headquarters as a member of the chairman�s team tasked with designing the transformation of EDS to achieve a $2 billion productivity improvement and to organize 140 000 EDS employees into four global lines of business.
From 1996 to mid-1999 Thomas was the global account director for the EDS Rolls-Royce account. The relationship included the complete business process reengineering of Rolls-Royce�s global operation the design and implementation of new enterprise IT systems and a new global IT infrastructure. This business transformation involved teams of EDS A.T. Kearney and Rolls-Royce staff working in partnership throughout Europe the United States and Canada. The current contract which runs through 2012 is valued at more than $3 billion.
Previously Thomas was managing director of the EDS UK Manufacturing division. His responsibilities included strategic direction business development and operational delivery of the full range of EDS products to a wide range of clients. Before this he was the director of the Aerospace group within the EDS Defense division providing professional services to UK MoD. Specific services included contract research and development of next generation aircraft systems operational analysis of missile systems and systems integration of Aircraft Mission Planners.
Thomas came to EDS via SD-Scicon where he had been the business manager responsible for founding a group that specialized in advanced computing architectures and pattern recognition. This group focused on transferring military computing techniques to the civil market and was responsible for the launch of the Sentinel computer vision system. Before moving into general management he was a consultant and project manager working on parallel processing systems cardiovascular/ultrasound systems security monitoring systems and military signal processing systems. During this time he served on the CAA Chief Scientist�s Think Tank and launched LINNET a DTI-funded initiative to bring advanced technologies into UK Manufacturing. He entered the computing industry after spending two years of research into the development of military radar systems with Marconi.
Thomas is chairman of EDS UK a member of the supervisory board of EDS GmBH and a member of the Presidents Committee of the CBI.
He holds a B.Sc with honours in mathematics from Leeds University an M.Sc in digital systems from Brunel University an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management and an honorary D.Sc from the City University London. |
