Brian A. Coleman is a partner in the firm's Commercial Litigation, Insurance and Intellectual Property Practice Groups, with a nationwide practice in complex commercial litigation. Brian is experienced at the trial and appellate levels of both federal and state courts, and has particular expertise in trademark litigation, professional liability insurance litigation and construction litigation.
Intellectual Property Litigation. Brian's practice in intellectual property litigation is particularly focused on trademark disputes, including infringement and dilution; trade dress infringement; copyright infringement; false advertising and unfair competition; as well as licensing and trade secrets disputes. Brian regularly litigates such matters in courts around the country for both small companies and Fortune 500 clients, and also handles numerous inter partes trademark proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
Insurance Coverage and ERISA Litigation. Throughout his career Brian has litigated commercial and professional liability insurance coverage cases on behalf of insurers in state and federal courts nationwide. Brian is particularly experienced in handling coverage disputes involving D&O policies, EPL policies and ERISA-based life, disability, trustee and fiduciary liability policies. Brian also has successfully defended over 40 ERISA benefits claims in federal courts around the country on behalf of insurers, employers and plan administrators.
Construction Litigation. Brian has litigated several large construction disputes on behalf of property owners, builders and contractors. Brian is particularly experienced in defending and prosecuting construction-related products liability claims, and has successfully handled several large mechanics lien cases as well.
In General. Brian is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, as well as in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Fourth Circuit, and Ninth Circuit. Prior to joining Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, Brian served as a law clerk to The Honorable Frank E. Schwelb of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals for the 1997-1998 term. |
