Brian Kurtz focuses his practice on traditional labor law and employment litigation. He successfully guides clients through collective bargaining negotiations, unfair labor practice cases before the National Labor Relations Board, union organizing campaigns, strikes and picketing, and arbitration hearings. Brian defends employers in discrimination cases before the Equal Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Cook County Commission on Civil Rights, and in state and federal court. He represents companies in restrictive covenant and duty of loyalty litigation, and he provides regular counseling on the day-to-day issues that invariably arise in the workplace.
Brian provides advice and counsel to employers going through major business changes, including mergers, acquisitions, RIFs and closings. He steers his clients through the transaction and ensures that the accompanying documents consummate the transaction while minimizing liability under the various labor and employment laws.
He is a frequent speaker at client seminars and industry gatherings, and has been a contributing editor to The Developing Labor Law since 2002. Prior to its merger with Ford & Harrison, he was an associate at Matkov Salzman in Chicago.
Brian is admitted to practice in Illinois and Tennessee. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, the Western District of Tennessee, and the Northern District of Georgia.
