Bruce Howard, originally from Texas, has a bachelor�s degree in natural resources from Cornell and a master�s in geography from the University of Texas. He also spent ten years working for the state of Washington�s Department of Ecology. With a background like that, he was the perfect choice when Avista needed someone to manage the multi-year Spokane River Hydro Project re-licensing process.
Bruce finds it satisfying to work toward a common understanding with all the nearly 100 stakeholder groups, most of whom are also customers.
�We�re engaging in a process of decision-making that, we hope, will build long-term working relationships and lead to on-the-ground improvements, said Bruce. This includes our hydropower system so we can provide energy to our customers, along with environmental enhancements, recreation and other benefits.
When he�s not at work, Bruce enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, doing things such as traveling, snow skiing, and camping and hiking in the summer. He also serves on the board of Spokane�s Hoopfest, the largest three-on-three basketball tournament in the world. |
