Bryan Lewis is in his second season as Officiating Consultant for the ECHL. He assists the Officiating Department with the administration of rules and directives. He offers guidance during the officials training camp and serves in a supervisory capacity during ECHL games.
Lewis began his officiating career in Georgetown, Ontario working senior and intermediate games in the Ontario Hockey Association and he has returned throughout his career to work games at Memorial Arena. Lewis was named the Director of Officiating for the National Hockey League in 1989, following the sudden death of John McCauley, and he remained in the position until 2000, administering a staff of 90 in the daily operation of the NHL Officiating Department. He began working as an on-ice official in the NHL beginning in 1966-67 and worked more than 1,000 games in the regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoff games as well as the 1981 NHL All-Star Game and the 1984 Canada Cup Finals. Lewis was selected as one of six individuals who comprised the Officiating Committee, responsible for selecting all on-ice officials for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. He administered the AHL Officiating Program during his tenure with the NHL Officiating Department. He retired from the NHL in 2000, but has remained active working with junior officials for the OHA and officiating youth and charity games.
Lewis was elected Councilor in Halton Hills, Ontario in November 2000 and was acclaimed to a second term in November 2003. Bryan and his wife, Elaine, live in the Georgetown, Ontario area. |
