Dr. Mendel received his B.A. from Columbia University in New York and his M.D. from the University of California San Diego. He did his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine at LAC/USC Medical Center in Los Angeles and in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of California San Francisco where he joined the faculty as Assistant Professor of Medicine. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology and Metabolism. He joined the pharmaceutical industry in 1993 and has held positions of increasing responsibility at Merck Knoll Aventis and sanofi-aventis. He joined Synvista Therapeutics in October 2007 from sanofi-aventis where he was Vice President of Metabolism Projects. Dr. Mendel has had extensive experience working in both early- and late-stage drug development as well as in Medical Affairs (supporting marketed products) and has contributed to a number of drug approvals. He has led numerous collaborations and co-development projects with other companies and has significant in-licensing experience. |
