Carolyn C. Clark has received considerable recognition as a Trusts and Estates lawyer. For many years, she has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Who's Who. She currently serves as a Regent of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel and on the American Law Institute's Members Consultative Group advising on the Restatement of the Law of Property. For over thirty years, she has practiced in the Milbank Trusts and Estates Department.
She has extensive experience advising individuals, families and fiduciaries, as well as nonprofit organizations. Clients for whom she has principal responsibility include The American Cancer Society, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Rockefeller University, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Vassar College.
She lectures at the Columbia University School of Law and in the Arts Administration Masters Program at Columbia University-Teachers College. She has lectured at numerous professional associations and conferences on topics ranging from basic estate planning and trust administration to charitable giving and administration of non-profits. Recent lecture topics include "Charitable Remainder Trusts" at the Miami Institute on Estate Planning, "Estate Planning" for the Harvard Business School Cornerstone Society, "Trust Administration and Accounting" for The Chase Manhattan Bank, "Charitable Giving" at the Practicing Law Institute Conference on Nonprofit Organizations, "Ethical Considerations and Charitable Giving" at the OMI Nonprofit Tax Conference, "Tax Aspects of Restricted Gifts and Pledges" at New York University's 47th Annual Institute on Federal Taxation, among others. She is also the author of numerous papers and articles, including "Acquisitive Altruism: Charitable Fund-Raising through Raffles, Casino Nights and Auctions" for the 1991 Washington Nonprofit Tax Conference and "Forming a Foundation Trust vs. Corporation" in the Probate and Property Journal of the American Bar Association.
Mrs. Clark received her B.A., with honors, from the University of Missouri, from which she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and recently received an award as a Distinguished Graduate of the College of Arts and Science. She received her J.D. from Harvard University and has served as a member of the Visiting Committee and as President of the Harvard Law School National Association and the Harvard Law School Association of New York. She has chaired various committees for the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel.
She currently serves on the Board of the Milbank Memorial Fund and is the Chairman of the Board of the Woodlawn Cemetery. She has served on the Boards of the New York Botanical Garden, the Riverdale Country School, the Visiting Nurse Association of New York and the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church. |
