Charles R. Lee served as the non-executive chairman of the board of directors of Verizon Communications from 2002 until his retirement in 2003. He was chairman and co-chief executive officer of Verizon from 2000 to 2002. Prior to the merger of GTE Corp. and Bell Atlantic Corp. to form Verizon, Lee served as chairman and chief executive officer of GTE from 1992 to 2000.
He is a director of United States Steel Corp., Marathon Oil Corp., The Procter & Gamble Co. and The DIRECTV Group, Inc. Lee is also a member of the board of the American Institute for Research (AIR) and Project GRAD. He is a trustee emeritus and presidential councilor of Cornell University. In addition, he serves on the board of overseers for the Weill Cornell Medical Center and is a member of The Business Council. Lee has been a UTC director since 1994. |
