Mr. Rice is a litigation partner who takes pride in efficiently resolving business disputes in a way that is carefully tailored to his clients� needs and circumstances. He joined the Firm in 1981 after clerking for the late U.S. District Judge Albert C. Wollenberg and now specializes in securities and other complex litigation.
Mr. Rice has successfully litigated cases ranging from multi-million dollar securities class actions to much smaller disputes between individuals over, for example, a closely held business. He also advises large financial institutions and other clients on how to avoid or minimize litigation. If necessary, however, Mr. Rice is ready to take matters to trial. He helped win a judgment for three corporate officers/directors in In re Equitec, the longest securities fraud trial in the local federal courts.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Mr. Rice is a member of the Board of Governors for the Northern California branch of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. For ten years, he served as editor of the ABTL Report for Northern California, for which he continues to write a regular column on securities litigation.
EDUCATION
Mr. Rice received his A.B. degree with honors from the University of Chicago in 1975. He received his law degree in 1980 from Boalt Hall at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and an editor of the California Law Review. |
