Description of Practice:
Charmaine Tan-Balanay is senior counsel based in Los Angeles and a member of Allen Matkins' Tax Department.
Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Charmaine was the Director of Corporate Tax at Ion Beam Applications in Pleasanton, California. While there, she managed the international, federal, state, and local tax planning and compliance activities of the company and its subsidiaries. Additionally, she recommended and assisted in the development, quantification, and implementation of various tax strategies including, but not limited to, analyzing acquisitions, dispositions, and corporate reorganizations. Before working at Ion Beam Applications, Charmaine was an associate in the Tax Department in the San Francisco office of Farella, Braun & Martel LLP, where she advised clients on a wide range of technical and strategic issues involving corporate and partnership tax law for foreign and domestic companies, transactional matters, and state and federal tax controversies.
Educational History:
Charmaine obtained her B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and with Departmental High Honors, in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1993. She went on to obtain her J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1998. During law school, Charmaine was on the staff of the Pacific Basin Law Journal and served as co-chair of both the Asian Pacific Islander Law Students Association and the Southern California Asian Pacific American Law Students Association. Charmaine is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of California. |
