Dr. Chenming Hu is the TSMC Distinguished Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at UC Berkeley. He joined the Berkeley faculty in 1976. From 2001 to 2004, he was the Chief Technology Officer of TSMC, world's largest dedicated integrated circuits manufacturing company. He was the founding chairman of Celestry Design Technologies, an IC design software company that was acquired by Cadence Design Systems in 2003. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, a member of Academia Sinica, a fellow of IEEE, a fellow of the Institute of Physics, and an honorary professor of Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing, and of Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. IEEE awarded him the 2002 Solid State Circuits Award for developing BSIM--- international standard SPICE model of MOSFETs, and the 1997 Jack A. Morton Award for his contributions to transistor reliability. He is also noted for developing the FinFET transistor structure that is promising for scaling the transistors to less than 10nm. He has received UC Berkeley's highest honor for teaching the Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award. He is the author or co-author of three books and 800 research papers in the field of semiconductor technology. Dr. Hu received his B.S. degree from the National Taiwan University and M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, all in electrical engineering. |
