Description of Practice:
Cheryl S. Prell is a partner in the firm's Century City office. Her practice focuses on the leasing and ongoing management of office and industrial projects and retail shopping centers, as well as the acquisition, disposition, and redevelopment of retail and office building projects. Ms. Prell represents a variety of clients, including institutional investors and privately owned companies, including J.P. Morgan Investment Management, Inc., Catholic Healthcare West Southern California, Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association, Sumitomo Life Realty (N.Y.), Inc., Aetna Life Insurance Company, and Douglas Emmett & Company. With expertise in various aspects of real estate transactions, Ms. Prell is particularly experienced in the negotiation and documentation of leases and other contracts relating to the ongoing operation of office, industrial, and retail projects. She has also been involved in analyzing existing agreements affecting various office and retail projects, and developing a strategy for repositioning these projects.
As Co-Chair of the Landlord Tenant Subsection of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of California for Southern California from 1996 through 1999, Ms. Prell has developed and implemented several Subsection programs. She has recently been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar. She is also active as a member of Commercial Real Estate Women and the University of Judaism Moriah Society.
Ms. Prell has recently co-authored two articles on CAM audits in lease transactions. The first article, entitled "CAM Adjustments" was published in the Los Angeles Lawyer, January 1999 issue. The second article, entitled "The CAM Audit: Winning the Battle Without Starting a War," was published in the September 1999 issue of the California Real Property Journal. Ms. Prell is assistant editor of a soon-to-be published office building legal practice guide for the Building Owners & Managers Association of Greater Los Angeles.
