Chris Schoettle is Executive Vice President of Technology and Networks at Akamai. Schoettle is responsible for the global technology platform providing content delivery and application acceleration services to maximize the online business performance of enterprise web sites. His responsibilities include software development, architecture, information security, network infrastructure and service operations for all Akamai services on the global network of 25,000 servers in 900 networks in 69 countries. Schoettle is also responsible for the Akamai India operation in Bangalore.
Prior to Akamai, Schoettle held a diverse set of positions across a wide range of technology and channel segments.
Schoettle was previously President of Broadband Access at Lucent Technologies, where he led the technology and products enabling broadband "last-mile" connectivity for service providers across telephony and packet networks, including DSL, DLC, cable, and fixed wireless solutions. He managed the full-stream worldwide business operating in five major locations in three countries. Schoettle was also Vice President and General Manager of VoIP (Voice-over-IP) Access Networks, leading Lucent's emerging business to operate voice calls over data networks.
At AT&T, Schoettle was General Manager of Next Generation IP Services, leading new enterprise services on the WorldNet IP network. He also held positions in AT&T's telecommunications business services targeting multinational corporations. At Novell, Schoettle held positions in corporate business development, creating and executing growth opportunities for Novell's networking and directory technology with systems integration and service provider channels.
At Unix System Laboratories (USL), Schoettle spent five years internationally, working in both the Asia/Pacific and European markets. With USL Asia/Pacific, he was Regional Manager of Australia and New Zealand, opening and establishing the first office based in Sydney. With USL Europe, he was based in London and worked with major computer manufacturers across Europe. Schoettle began his career as a programmer at NCR Corporation, developing software on the Unix operating system.
Schoettle graduated summa cum laude with B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science and mathematics from Emory University in Atlanta, and he has completed post-graduate programs at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and at the London Business School. Schoettle serves on the Board of Trustees for the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council. |
