Webber is a native of Detroit, where he was one of the most decorated high school players in state history, winning three state titles and Naismith Player of the Year honors. He attended the University of Michigan, where he led one of the greatest groups of players in NCAA history - the Fab Five. Webber was the No. 1 pick in the 1993 NBA draft, playing with the Golden State Warriors his rookie year. He was later traded to the Washington Wizards and later ended up back in the Western Conference on the Sacramento Kings from 1998-2005. In 2005, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers and has since returned home to play for the Pistons. Webber has been honored as 1994 Schick NBA Rookie of the Year and is a five-time NBA All-Star. In addition, Chris has been honored as the Sacramento Make-A-Wish chapter�s 2003 Wish Maker of the Year, a two-time recipient of the NBA's Community Assist Award and owns a small but significant collection of African American artifacts and documents. He founded The Chris Webber Foundation in 1993 with his family and dedicates his philanthropic efforts to helping youth and families in need. |
