Dr. Starr co-founded BioMarin and currently serves as senior vice president and chief scientific officer. From 1991 to 1998, Dr. Starr oversaw research programs at Glyko Inc. were he served as vice president of research and development for six years. Prior to this time, Dr. Starr was a National Research Council Associate at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles including research papers on fluorophore-assisted carbohydrate electrophoresis in the diagnosis of lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs) and in the identification of patients with mucopolysaccharidosis I. His work in the development of diagnostic tests for LSDs has been funded by several grants from the NIH and other institutions. Dr. Starr earned a B.S. from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the State University of New York Health Science Center. |
