Clinton E. Childress is Senior Vice President Corporate Services and Chief Human Resources Officer of TECO Energy.
He began his career with Tampa Electric Co. in 1970 as a laborer, and soon advanced to a lineman in Energy Delivery. Childress joined the management team in 1983 as a technician in Standards.
During these early years, he also attended the University of Tampa where he received a bachelor's degree in professional management. Childress also attended the University of Michigan School of Business specializing in negotiating and administering labor contracts
He made a career move to the Human Resources team in 1985, as coordinator of Safety and Industrial Health, responsible for safety training and development, equipment and programs.
During the next 15 years, Childress served in various leadership positions including manager of special projects where he was instrumental in developing the HR processes for a green field generation facility (Hardee Power Station); director of Labor Relations where he was responsible for labor negotiations, labor relations, safety and security; and director of compensation and benefits, where he was responsible for the development and administration of all compensation processes and benefits packages.
Childress was promoted to Vice President-Human Resources in July 2000 and in September 2003 was promoted to Senior Vice President-Human Resources & Services.
In October 2004, he became Senior Vice President Corporate Services and Chief Human Resources Officer. Childress assumed the responsibility for the company�s diversity initiative.
Human Resources and the support services of Information Technology, Purchasing and Contract Services, Telecommunications and Facilities Services and Real Estate report to Childress.
He has been active in the Hillsborough County Workforce Development Board, the Wages Coalition Board, the Edison Electric Institute, and the American Heart Association Board. Childress is involved with many charitable organizations in the community.
He served three years in the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam veteran. Childress is married and has two adult sons.
