Current responsibility
Craig is a principal with the Life insurance consulting practice of the Seattle office of Milliman. He was with the firm from 1991 to 1995 and rejoined in 1997.
Experience
In addition to his consulting experience with Milliman, Craig has over 17 years of company experience in the life insurance industry. He has served as chief actuary and appointed actuary for two large stock company groups.
From 1979 to 1991, Craig worked for Merrill Lynch, rising to the position of Vice President and Chief Actuary for Family Life Insurance Company and for Merrill Lynch Life Insurance Company when it was launched in 1985. His responsibilities included management of all actuarial functions, as well as the financial operations area (financial reporting, budget, general accounting).
From 1995 to 1997 Craig served as the Vice President and Actuary for GE's rapidly growing insurance group that became known as GE Financial Assurance (subsequently renamed Genworth Financial with their 2004 IPO). In the two and a half years he worked for GE, Craig led or contributed to a number of successful initiatives:
Improvements in valuation processes for faster quarterly close
Allocation of investment income by product line and distribution channel
Implementation of a new DAC/PVFP amortization system for annuities
Participation on several acquisition due diligence teams
Craig now co-manages Milliman's Seattle life practice and works with clients on mergers and acquisitions, reserve valuation, financial projections, reinsurance transactions, cash flow testing, and risk management. The practice generally focuses individual life and annuity product lines, both fixed and variable. Craig serves as appointed actuary for Union Fidelity Life Insurance Company, a GE subsidiary with over $19 billion in assets. He has managed several projects in Asia, primarily merger and acquisition engagements and the implementation of US GAAP financial reporting processes.
