Dallas Williams returns to the Orioles organization for his third year, and his second year in Norfolk. Under his guidance, eight different position players played for both Norfolk and Baltimore in 2007. Williams was the field coach with Triple-A Ottawa in 2006 after serving as the hitting coach at Double-A Springfield in the St. Louis system in 2005.
Williams spent time as a coach in the major leagues from 2000 to 2003. He served as the first base coach for the Colorado Rockies from 2000-2002, and also coached first base for the Boston Red Sox in 2003.
He began his coaching career in 1989 in the Cleveland organization as a field coach for Class-A Kinston and became the Indians' minor league roving outfield/baserunning instructor the next year. He moved on to the White Sox organization in 1991 and spent 9 years in the Chicago system, spending the first 5 years as the minor league roving outfield/baserunning instructor before becoming coach for Gulf Coast ('96), Hickory ('97), Bristol ('98) and Winston-Salem ('99).
He was originally selected by the Orioles in the first round of the 1976 draft, and played 12 pro seasons, reaching the majors with the Orioles for two games in September 1981 and playing 18 games for Cincinnati in 1983. He led the International League with 51 stolen bases in 1981. |
