Mr. Gillis has an extensive and successful background as a senior executive. Most recently, Mr. Gillis was CEO of SAGA Systems ("SAGA"), a NYSE-traded enterprise software company with over $200 million of revenue and 800 employees. As CEO of SAGA, Mr. Gillis led a MBO of the company from its German parent for $85 million in April of 1997. After closing the acquisition, Mr. Gillis completed two acquisitions, led an IPO on the NYSE in November of 1997, and dramatically grew operating profit, from $10 million to $45 million over three years. SAGA was ultimately reacquired by the German seller for over $300 million, generating over 10 times the capital invested by the buyout sponsor, Thayer Capital ("Thayer").
Prior to SAGA, Mr. Gillis was Executive Vice President of Falcon Systems, a Maryland-based interactive equipment company serving the Federal market. At Falcon, Mr. Gillis guided the company through an unprecedented growth period from $13M in revenue to $180M that led to their 1994 acquisition by GTSI, a NASDAQ company.
Mr. Gillis served on the CEO Advisory Board of the NYSE and as a Director of Cysive Systems (NASDAQ - CYSV). In addition, Mr. Gillis served as a member of the Board of Iconixx, an internet services firm based in Houston, Texas and Vigilinx, a digital security software company based in New Jersey. He is currently a Director of SciQuest, a web based procurement software company that was acquired by Trinity Ventures of California in 2004 and is Chairman of the Board of ESP, Inc., an Orlando, Florida based engineering services company that was recently acquired by Pine Creek Partners of Washington, D.C.
In 1999, Mr. Gillis was selected as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Mr. Gillis is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and is married with three children. |
