Dr. Daniel R. Cohn, the Vice Chairman of the Management Committee, received an AB from the University of California at Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Physics from MIT. Dr. Cohn was President and CEO of IET from 1996 to 2000. Dr. Cohn is currently a senior research scientist at MIT and is Head of the Plasma Technology Division of the Plasma Science and Fusion Center, one of MIT's largest on-campus research laboratories. He is also affiliated with the Nuclear Engineering Department. Dr. Cohn has been on the research staff at MIT since 1971. His research has been primarily on energy and environmental applications of plasmas. He served as Acting Assistant Director of the Plasma Science Center and was responsible for governmental relations. He was a consultant in laser related defense technologies for the MIT Lincoln Laboratory from 1986 to 1990. Dr. Cohn is a holder of 20 U.S. patents and a number of related foreign patents. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 publications in journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and a member of the American Nuclear Society where he served as Chairman of the Fusion Energy Division. Dr. Cohn was Editor of the Journal of Fusion Energy from 1984 to 1992. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Cohn was a recipient of an R&D 100 Award for development of technologically significant new products in 1994, 1995 and 1998. He was the winner of the Discover Award for Technological Innovation in Transportation in 1999.
