Danielle K. Schonback is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the New York office. She is a member of the Firm's Energy and Derivatives Markets Practice Group, where her practice focuses on representing investment banks, hedge funds and energy and commodity companies in a variety of transactional, regulatory and risk management matters.
Danielle has considerable experience drafting, analyzing and negotiating physical and financial agreements concerning commodities such as wholesale energy and energy management agreements, natural gas, emissions allowances and credits, and renewable energy certificates, including standardized industry agreements such as ISDAs, EEIs and NAESBs. She also advises clients on international and domestic regulatory and documentation issues related to structured commodity and derivatives transactions and on-exchange and over-the-counter energy transactions in cash and derivatives markets.
Prior to joining the Firm, Danielle was in private practice, where she advised clients on energy trading compliance regulations, electricity and natural gas transaction price reporting, the Mobile-Sierra Doctrine and power purchase agreements. Danielle has represented clients involved in government investigations into natural gas transaction price reporting and market manipulation conducted by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
During law school, Danielle interned at the CFTC where she researched and reviewed various matters relating to commodity trading for an Administrative Law Judge in the Office of Proceedings. Danielle served as note and comment editor for The American University Law Review.
Danielle is a member of the state bars of New York, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
