David Goodman serves clients in the areas of employment counseling and litigation, commercial litigation, insurance coverage litigation, trade secret litigation and tort defense. David's clients range from large closely held corporations to small businesses, and include manufacturers, professional service providers, real estate developers, retailers, and financial services providers. His approach focuses on aggressive and pragmatic dispute resolution.
David has extensive first-chair trial experience, and regularly represents clients in federal and state courts, including appellate courts, in jurisdictions throughout the country. In addition to his work in the courtroom, he routinely represents clients in arbitrations and mediations. He has provided broad employment-related counseling and litigation services involving employment disputes, employment contracts, severance agreements, OSHA compliance, internal investigations, and leave issues. He has also represented clients in various civil rights disputes, including ERISA litigation, Section 1983 claims and EEOC investigations.
David also has extensive experience litigating trade secret and other intellectual property disputes involving trade secret misappropriation, the Lanham Act, and unfair trade practices. He regularly represents clients involved in commercial disputes with extensive experience litigating and arbitration insurance coverage and toxic tort claims; recent matters have included professional negligence, insurance coverage litigation, fraud and consumer fraud, commercial disputes with municipalities, professional negligence, personal injury, wrongful death, product liability and construction negligence, among other areas.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Drawing on his long experience as a litigator, David is a regular speaker at legal and industry seminars, where he has addressed professionals from a variety of industries including human resources on topics such as record retention and the development and enforcement of effective record retention programs, restrictive covenants, how to conduct internal investigations, FLSA regulations and FMLA compliance.
He is committed to the development of new legal professionals, having served as the chair of the litigation department of a mid-sized Chicago law firm, managed summer associate programs for law students and serving on various associate-development and continuing legal education committees throughout his career.
David is a member of the Chicago, Illinois State and American Bar Associations.
