David M. Eckstein CFA, cofounder of FMV Opinions, is a Managing Director of the firm and heads the San Francisco office. Over nearly two decades, he has provided valuation services for transaction fairness and solvency, goodwill impairment and other financial reporting, corporate and personal income tax, estate and gift tax, purchase/sale of a business, employee stock ownership plans, bankruptcy, litigation, and other purposes. Mr. Eckstein has valued common stock, preferred stock, debt instruments, carried interests, intangible assets, and fractional interests in real estate. Mr. Eckstein has provided expert testimony and litigation consulting regarding valuation. In addition, he has published several articles and speaks regularly on valuation topics.
Prior to founding FMV Opinions, Mr. Eckstein was Director of Investment Research at The Sorrento Corporation, an investment advisory firm. He has also served as an Investment Analyst at Bank of America's investment management subsidiary. Mr. Eckstein taught MBA and undergraduate business courses as a visiting lecturer at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China, and edited a business textbook published in China.
Mr. Eckstein has a Masters in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School. He graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with honors and distinction. Mr. Eckstein also has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and is a Candidate Member of the American Society of Appraisers.
Mr. Eckstein serves as an alumni career advisor for both Stanford University and Harvard Business School. In addition, he is active in Boy Scouts and coaches youth soccer and baseball.
