David R. Schaffer represents clients in matters involving intellectual property prosecution concerning patents, copyrights and trademarks. He specializes in identifying and resolving patent, trademark and copyright issues that arise in the computer, Internet, information technology, bioinformatics, telecommunication and biometrics fields. He has worked with large high technology companies as well as with small startups and individuals. His patent experience includes the drafting and prosecution of computer hardware and software, Internet, business method, mechanical, bioinformatics, telecommunication, biometrics and medical device patent applications. He is called upon to prepare patentability opinions and to participate in patent, copyright and trademark litigation matters. Mr. Schaffer also performs web site review and analysis for copyright and trademark issues and he prepares related infringement cease and desist letters. In addition to preparing licensing agreements, he prepares and files copyright and trademark registration applications. Mr. Schaffer has written and spoken on the patentability of computer-related inventions, Internet-related technology patents and bioinformatics patent protection. Most recently, he was an associate with the law firm of Kenyon & Kenyon. Prior to entering the legal profession, Mr. Schaffer was a Consultant to the U.S. Navy for more than 16 years on numerous research and development, production and operational weapon, sensor and other hardware programs to include computer software/database development and support, computer hardware support, engineering, financial, logistics and management areas. Mr. Schaffer also taught high school chemistry.
