David Meline was appointed GM North America vice president and chief financial officer effective January 1, 2007. Prior to this appointment, Meline was GM Europe vice president and chief financial officer, GM Europe, based in Zurich, Switzerland, from September 1, 2004, until December 31, 2006. He had previously been chief financial officer for GM Daewoo in Seoul, Korea, where he had overall responsibility for GM Daewoo's financial and administrative operations since the company's inception.
Meline was born in Owatonna, Minnesota, on December 9, 1957. He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University in 1980, a master's degree in economics from the London School of Economics in 1985, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago in 1986.
Meline joined the General Motors Corporation in 1986 at the Treasurer's Office in New York, where he held several positions, including director of foreign exchange, director of executive compensation, and director of business development, before assuming the CFO position at GM Kenya in 1993. In January 1996, he was assigned to GM do Brasil Ltd., where he progressively held several positions, including treasurer, controller, and CFO, with overall responsibility for financial and banking operations. From October 2001, Meline served on the GM Daewoo negotiation and transition team, and was named chief financial officer for GM Daewoo Auto and Technology Company at its start-up in October 2002.
Prior to joining General Motors, Meline was employed by AT&T Corporation as a product design engineer. He received one design patent for his work at that time. |
