David S. Cunningham, III graduated from the University of Southern California and received his B.A. in Economics in 1977 (summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa). He also served as a summer fellow in 1976 with the American Economic Association at Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois working on macroeconomic models for the U.S. economy. In 1980, David graduated from New York University School of Law where he was awarded a Root-Tilden-Kern Public Service Scholarship. David received a fellowship to the U.S. Attorney's Office in New York and was a founding member of the Public Interest Law Foundation, a student based organization founded to fund entry-level positions for attorneys seeking employment in public service oriented organizations.David began his legal career as an attorney in the Honors Program with the United States Department of Justice. After leaving the Justice Department in 1983, David clerked for the Honorable Terry J. Hatter, Jr., U. S. District Judge for the Central District of California in Los Angeles. In 1984, David joined the Beverly Hills office of the national law firm of Finley, Kumble, Heine, Underberg, Manley & Casey, where he represented public entities and publicly traded companies in real estate acquisitions, including condemnation related matters. He joined the staff of Loyola Law School, where he served as an adjunct professor from 1987 to 1991 teaching financial institutions and trial advocacy. David joined Meyers Nave in 2007 and brought with him over two decades of experience in redevelopment law and condemnation matters. His practice area has included litigating such diverse issues as real estate and goodwill valuation, relocation eligibility and assistance, inverse condemnation claims, federal preemption and constitutional challenges in state and federal courts. David's activities include precedent setting cases such as Worldwide Enterprises, Inc. vs. LACRA, a condemnation matter that helped to clarify provisions of the Eminent Domain Law affecting expert testimony on valuation issues.David has served on numerous boards and commissions including, the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners from 2001-05 (served as President for two years); the LAUSD Governance Commission from 2005-06 (served as Chairman); the Los Angeles Urban League Board of Directors from 1988-96, the Los Angeles Business Council from 1997-2000, the Watts Health Foundation Community Trust from 1994-1998, and the Board of Directors for the Midnight Mission from 1998 to present. |
