As one of the first vintners to create a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir from a single-vineyard designation, Davis has spent his entire winemaking career ensuring the bright future of this appellation.
Davis learned the importance of appellation from his travels. Fascinated by the appellation systems deeply rooted in Burgundy and other regions of France, he brought this tradition to the Russian River Valley.
Educated as a historian at Stanford and UC Berkeley, Davis first worked as a reporter before the vineyards beckoned him. His father, Lindley Bynum, a wine judge and wine writer, encouraged Davis' career change. "My father was very supportive and proud of my venture into this fascinating business," he says. Self-trained and relying upon intuition, Davis Bynum began a heritage of artisan winemaking, which he taught to his children. |
