DeWitt Ezell, State president of Tennessee, has recently retired from BellSouth Telecommunications following a career of thirty-seven years.
DeWitt is a native of Nashville and a graduate of Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee. He was named their 1994 Engineer of Distinction and 1998 Distinguished Alumnus.
DeWitt is well known for his community leadership focusing on economic development and youth education. He is the recipient of several awards including the 1999 Free Enterprise Award by Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee, the 1997 Outstanding Nashvillian Award presented by the Kiwanis Club, the 1997 National Salesperson of the Year from the Sales and Marketing Executives of Nashville, Inc., the Silver Beaver Award presented by the Boy Scouts of America, and the Human Relations Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice. The American Economic Development Council also awarded him their Leadership in Economic Development Award. DeWitt has served as an officer in several community efforts, including chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, co-chairman of Tennessee Tomorrow, Inc. and chairman of the board of Leadership Nashville.
He is also a member of the Girl Scout Advisory Board, TSU Advisory Board, Vanderbilt University-College Cabinet, BellSouth Senior Classic, and the Baptist Hospital Advisory Board. |
