Diana Farrell is the director of the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), McKinsey & Company's economics research arm. MGI's independent investigations combine McKinsey's microeconomic understanding of companies and industries with the rigor of leading macroeconomic thinking to derive perspectives and publish reports on important global economic issues. MGI is widely acclaimed as a key contributor to economic debates, and its research is regularly featured in international publications.
MGI has published in-depth, sector-based productivity studies of nearly 20 economies around the world across more than 30 industries and has also covered the relationship between IT and productivity. Other research priorities include global economic integration, the ascendance of China and India, labor markets and offshoring, capital markets, health care, and global energy demand.
Diana's work has appeared in academic journals and books and on the op-ed pages of leading international publications, and she is a frequent speaker at major US and global conferences. Together with Lowell Bryan, she is the coauthor of Market Unbound, published by Wiley & Sons, 1996. She is also the editor of an anthology series based on MGI research, published by Harvard Business School Press.
Diana was previously a McKinsey partner in the Washington, DC office and a leader of McKinsey's Global Financial Institutions and Global Strategy Practices. She has served clients around the world in a variety of capacities. Prior to joining McKinsey, she worked with Goldman, Sachs & Company in New York.
Diana has a B.A. from Wesleyan University in economics and in the College of Social Studies. She also holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Diana is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bretton Woods Committee, and the Pacific Council on International Policy; a trustee for the Committee for Economic Development; a board adviser to the Bay Area Economic Pulse; and senior adviser to the American Assembly's Next Generation Project. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and two children. |
