Dick Banks is President/Chief Operating Officer of Mercy Housing, one of the largest not-for-profit developers, owners and managers of program-enriched affordable housing in the United States. He joined the organization in September 2006. Banks� responsibilities include the operations of all Mercy Housing�s business centers and the management and risk assessment of the organization�s current and future developments across the country. Before coming to Mercy Housing, he served as Chief Operating Officer at GSW, a company jointly owned by Goldman Sachs and Cerberus in Berlin, where he led the conversion of a formerly government-owned, 70,000-unit portfolio.Toward the beginning of his career in real estate and construction, Banks worked for Morrison Knudsen, an international construction company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Banks also worked in commercial real estate for Coldwell Banker in Denver and Property Company of America in Irvine, Calif., before joining Lincoln in 1991. Later, Banks managed Lincoln�s 20,000-unit, third-party, fee-management portfolio in Southern California.In the late 1990s, Banks served as President and CEO of Lincoln Residential Services, a division of Legacy Partners, where he was responsible for 50,000 units in the Western United States. In 1997, Banks joined Archstone-Smith, one of the most active developers in California, where he served as Senior Partner of the company�s Southern California business and later President of its West Division. He later rejoined Legacy Partners before accepting the position at GSW in 2004 in Berlin. Banks earned his bachelor�s degree at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 1969 and his master�s degree in international management at the American Graduate School of International Management in 1974 in Phoenix. He and his wife, Susan, have four grown children. |
