Drake Coker, Chief Scientist and co-founder of Acucorp, is the designer responsible for the company's family of innovative technologies. With more than 20 years experience in the software industry, Mr. Coker began his career in 1980 as a systems programmer for a manufacturer of accounting software. Not satisfied with the COBOL used by his employer, he spent the next few years writing a file system, VISION, and then a compiler. That compiler, first known as ACUCOBOL-85 and now called ACUCOBOL-GT, is considered by many to be the world's most portable COBOL compiler. And, its development eventually led to the creation of Acucorp, Inc. in December of 1988.
In addition to ACUCOBOL-GT, Mr. Coker is credited with designing and developing Acucorp's patented database technology. He currently heads the software development department and is responsible for the creation and evolution of Acucorp's related products. These include the company's software solutions for Internet deployment, COBOL-based GUI development, COBOL access to RDBMS/ODBC data, distributed computing and programmer productivity.
